For modern-day pyramids
It has been hypothesised that the master builders of ancient Egypt may already have made use of water when “marking” and levelling the foundations of the pyramids. They cut a trench squarely around the planned foundation and then filled it with water, and once filled up, everything that stood out above the water surface level was then removed evenly. The successor of this idea, the level with an air bubble in a transparent capsule, the bubble level, has been in use since the 17th century – a precision tool that has been indispensible on construction sites and in other crafts ever since. This compact level merges an innovative, functional design with a language of form that is very high-value and purist.
